TQ Morning Briefing

SpaceX and Tesla formed committees to discuss a merger, with Musk recused. Super Micro’s sales estimate beat its own guidance by $4 billion. Credit hasn’t followed the rebound, and Brent is near $110.

MARKET STATE

The Long End Rallied. The Front End Stayed Put.

The 30-year yield closed Tuesday at 5.42%, down 19 basis points since Oct. 1. The 2-year closed at 4.79%, up one.

That cut the gap between them to 63 basis points from 83. All 100 economists in a survey released Tuesday expect a December hike.

The 20-year closed at 5.47%, above the 30-year, as it has every day this month. Treasury sells $13 billion of them at 1 p.m.

Bitcoin sat near $83,300. Spot bitcoin funds took in $23 million Tuesday. Monday's haul was $527 million.

Market Implication:

The curve is acting as if higher short rates now buy slower growth later. A pinned 2-year and a falling 30-year mean holders accept less for duration despite expected hikes. That turns long bonds into the market's growth hedge, and today's 20-year sale prices it. If demand is weak at a yield above the 30-year, the flattening rests on thin support.

WHAT ACTUALLY MOVED MARKETS

Super Micro Beat on Margin, Not Just Sales. Credit Hasn't Signed Off.

Super Micro (SMCI) sees $18.5 billion to $19.5 billion in sales. It had guided $14.5 billion to $15.5 billion.

Its estimated gross margin of 12.0% to 12.5% also beat guidance. At the midpoints, gross profit runs about 46% above what guidance implied. The figures are preliminary and unaudited.

The Kospi rose 3.29% overnight, recovering most of Tuesday's 3.7% drop.

Credit hasn’t followed. Five-year default swaps on CoreWeave (CRWV) topped 1,100 basis points on Oct. 15 and traded down to 1,038 that same day, per LSEG. The CCC bond spread was 13.10 percentage points on Oct. 19, the session chip stocks rallied. Neither reading reflects the overnight bid.

Structural Setup:

The overnight bid repriced AI demand, not AI funding. Super Micro's margin raises what each dollar of server sales earns. It does nothing for what borrowers like CoreWeave pay to finance the build-out. If those spreads stay wide while chip stocks recover, the rally rests on equity buyers alone.

TAPE & FLOW

Musk Backs the Merger. Traders Priced 2027, Not 2026.

Elon Musk said on SpaceX's earnings call that SpaceX and Tesla have formed special committees. Independent directors on each will discuss a merger. He said no terms are agreed and he is excluded as a conflicted party.

Tesla's approval would need a majority of all outstanding shares. Musk called that "quite a high hurdle."

SpaceX (SPCX) was indicated about 7% higher. That move also reflects its revenue beat. Tesla (TSLA) was up about 1.4% ahead of its own report and call tonight.

Polymarket's 2026 merger contract jumped to 23.5 cents from 18.5. It gave the gain back within an hour. The 2027 contract rose to 71.5 cents from 66. By morning it was at 68, keeping about a third of its gain. Both books are thin.

Sector Read:

Traders are pricing a process, not a deal. Musk's own conditions, no terms and a hard Tesla vote, push value toward later dates. That is why the later contract trades far above the nearer one after both faded. If Musk offers a timeline on Tesla's call, the 2026 price is the one that has to move.

POWER & POLICY

Oil Is Back Near $110. Its Bill Is Landing in Prices and Guidance.

Brent settled Tuesday $3.20 below its high as traders weighed mediation hopes. During the session, Iranian media reported Tehran's message to Pakistan's army chief. It ruled out talks with Washington until its demands are met. Brent was at $109.44 at 7:38 a.m.

UK inflation rose to 3.5%, with motor fuel up 29.8% from a year earlier. Services rose to 3.7% from 3.4%, led by air fares, the statistics office said.

United Airlines (UAL) guided to 50 cents to $1.50 a share for the fourth quarter. Analysts expected $1.76. It assumed jet fuel about 45 cents a gallon above analysts' view. It puts that gap at about $1 a share, and holds a call at 10:30 a.m.

Watch Signal:

Oil's cost is now landing in guidance and price indexes, not just futures. United's own math puts its fuel gap above its entire shortfall. Britain's headline jump also ran through motor fuel. Brent won back part of Tuesday's mediation dip overnight, so diplomacy has not cut either bill. If Brent holds near $110 through United's call, the cautious guide stops looking cautious.

ONE LEVEL DEEPER

Private Credit Froze in One Wrapper and Kept Raising in Another

MA Financial suspended all redemptions in an Australian real estate credit fund. In August it had capped withdrawals at 1% a month. It cited a weaker housing market that is slowing loan repayments.

Its corporate and asset-backed funds are performing, it said. Under 0.05% of their assets are 90 or more days behind.

Arini announced the final close of its first direct lending fund the same day. Pensions, sovereign funds and financial institutions backed it. MA's frozen fund was sold to individuals with periodic liquidity.

The Read:

Private credit's cracks are showing first in its liquidity promise, not its loan books. Property loans that repay slowly cannot fund monthly exits, so MA's August cap became a full freeze. Institutions kept committing to the asset class the same day. If more retail credit funds tighten their exit terms, read it as a wrapper problem before a default problem.

US PRE-MARKET

THE CLOSE

Overnight, buyers paid up for AI demand again.

The cost side hasn't eased. AI credit was still wide at last read, Brent is near $110 and a December hike is still expected.

The cleanest test comes at 1 p.m. A strong 20-year auction would show buyers still want duration with oil near $110. A weak one leaves tonight's Meta, Lam Research and Tesla reports to carry the rebound alone.
