TQ Evening Briefing

Nvidia announced $750 billion in AI deals in a single week and its own CDS costs surged. Corning fell 20% because wireless carriers are cutting spending. Sherwin-Williams, UPS, and Coca-Cola all raised guidance.

The Setup

The Dow Rose. Chips Fell. The Equal-Weight S&P Hit a Record. All True Simultaneously.

The Dow gained over 1%. The S&P closed near flat. The Nasdaq barely moved despite chip weakness dragging all session. The equal-weight S&P 500, which treats every stock the same regardless of size, hit a new all-time high.

Energy, tech, and utilities were the worst sectors. Consumer staples, communication services, and discretionary names led. Chips fell as the AI circular financing story moved from pundit notes into CDS markets. WTI dropped, easing oil-driven inflation fears heading into Wednesday's Fed decision.

The session looked calm. The stories underneath it were anything but.

TQ Trade Implication

Equal-weight S&P records while megacap chips fall means the market is telling you breadth matters more than AI momentum right now. Own it. The Fed decision Wednesday either validates that rotation or reverses it.

PREMIER FEATURE

Intel Just Had One of Its Biggest Single-Day Surges Since 1987

That's not noise. That's capital rushing back into AI.

But here's what smart investors are starting to realize:

AI doesn't run on chips alone. It runs on data.

Mode Mobile sits upstream of this entire shift.

Every model — ChatGPT, copilots, next-gen AI — depends on real human behavior. Clicks. Searches. Usage. That's the fuel. And it's getting harder to find.

Mode has built a 490M+ user data engine powered by real, consented activity. They pay users for screen time — and generate the high-quality data AI companies actually need.

The traction is already there:

  • $115M+ revenue
  • 32,481% revenue growth
  • $1B+ earned and saved by users

Over 59,000 shareholders have already claimed shares. They've secured the $MODE ticker from Nasdaq.

Theme One

Nvidia Announced $750 Billion in AI Deals in One Week. Its Own Debt Protection Cost Surged.

Nvidia (NVDA) signed or entered talks on over $750 billion in financing deals in the past seven days. A $500 billion letter of intent with SK Group. A proposal to guarantee $250 billion of OpenAI's data center leases. A $5 billion investment in Safe Superintelligence, a company with zero revenue, in exchange for compute orders.

Here is how the loop works. Nvidia invests in an AI company. That company buys Nvidia chips with the proceeds. Nvidia books it as revenue. Nvidia's stock rises. It then invests in more AI companies who buy more chips. The IMF and the Bank for International Settlements have both formally flagged it as a systemic risk this month.

The bond market noticed. Nvidia's CDS cost, essentially insurance against Nvidia defaulting, surged sharply. S&P downgraded Oracle (ORCL) to its lowest investment-grade rating. Oracle's CDS widened to 215 basis points. Société Générale's head of US equity strategy put it directly: for hyperscale companies, it is CDS, not EPS, that matters now.

TQ Execution Bias

Watch Meta and Microsoft earnings this week for related-party AI revenue disclosure. The circular financing concern doesn't break the AI trade immediately. It changes how you value the revenue.

Theme Two

Corning Fell 20% Because Wireless Carriers Are Cutting Capex. That Matters Beyond Corning.

Corning (GLW) fell nearly 20%, its worst session since 2020, after warning that wireless carriers are pulling back on capital spending. Corning makes fiber optic cable. Its customers are the same carriers supposed to be deploying AI-enabled network infrastructure nationwide.

The disconnect is glaring. Hyperscalers are raising capex by billions every quarter. The carriers connecting the last mile of that infrastructure are pulling back. Those two things cannot both be right indefinitely. Either carriers catch up to hyperscaler spending or the infrastructure buildout has a gap in it.

Corning's warning is the first real crack from inside the supply chain itself, not from an analyst or a CDS trader.

TQ Execution Bias

Corning's capex warning is a data point, not a thesis-breaker. But it shows AI infrastructure spend is not evenly distributed. Reduce fiber and wireless infrastructure names. The capital is going to compute, not connectivity.

Theme Three

Sherwin-Williams, UPS, and Coca-Cola All Raised Guidance. The Real Economy Is Running.

Sherwin-Williams (SHW) jumped 8.5% on a Q2 beat and raised its full-year profit outlook. UPS beat estimates and said business will stay strong through year-end. Coca-Cola (KO) gained over 4.5% after raising its own outlook on strong Q2 sales.

Three companies with nothing to do with AI hardware all delivered clean beats and raised guidance on the same day. The Dow gained because of them. The equal-weight S&P record confirmed it is not just three stocks. It is broad.

The consumer is spending. Companies are hiring. Margins outside AI hardware are holding. The real economy that everyone wrote off when chips were doubling is doing just fine.

Baird's Ross Mayfield flagged the caution. The rotation depends on rates and oil staying where they are. Rates back toward 4.7 percent or oil back toward $100 and the case for cyclicals catching a bid falls apart. Wednesday's Fed statement is that test.

TQ Execution Bias

The equal-weight record is the cleanest buy signal in today's session. Own real economy earners with pricing power heading into the Fed. KO, SHW, UPS all confirmed the thesis today.

Quick Themes
  • The Fed's two-day meeting started today. The decision comes Wednesday at 2pm ET. Hike odds have pulled back slightly as WTI fell. The meeting lands while Microsoft (MSFT), Meta (META), and Apple (AAPL) are all mid-earnings week.
  • ASML (ASML) fell further after reports that a Chinese state-backed firm is producing chipmaking equipment that could compete with its machines. China went from copying chips to building the machines that make them. The long-term implication is larger than one session's move.
  • SandDisk (SNDK) fell 16% and is now off 50% from its June 25 all-time high. It is still the best-performing S&P 500 stock YTD. Same drawdown pattern as SpaceX five days ago. Coherent (COHR) dropped 15.5% as the chip de-grossing cycle extended into a third week. SK Hynix fell below its US IPO price overnight again after Korea's Kospi dropped another 10.84%.

The Close

The Dow rose. The equal-weight S&P hit a record. Chips fell. Nvidia guaranteed $250 billion of OpenAI's debt while its own CDS surged. Corning fell 20% on carrier capex cuts. Real economy companies raised guidance across the board.

The AI circular financing story moved from analyst commentary into bond market pricing today. That is the regime change. Wednesday the Fed speaks and Microsoft reports the same evening. The question the market has been building toward for three weeks, is AI spending real revenue or a financing loop, starts getting answered before Thursday morning.
