TQ Evening Briefing
CPI landed exactly as expected. September hike odds fell. December hike odds rose. CoreWeave doubled its revenue and surged. Super Micro guided to $15 billion and surged. Wendy's is going private. The tape liked all of it.

CPI Hit Its Number. The Fed Gets More Time. The Market Took It.
CPI rose 3.4% year-over-year in July, down from 3.5% in June. Monthly headlines came in at 0.1%. Core CPI landed at 2.5% annually and 0.2% monthly. Every single number matched the forecast. Not better. Not worse. Exactly consensus.
September hold odds jumped from 45% a week ago to 62% today. December hike odds moved to 73%. The Fed's debate didn't end, it just shifted two meetings forward.
Nick Timiraos at the WSJ put it simply: not soft enough to take September off the table entirely, not firm enough to force it.
TQ Trade Implication
CPI in-line buys time, not conviction. December is now the live meeting. Another CPI print and another payrolls report land before September. Neither has been released yet. Hold the rate-sensitive positioning cautiously until that data clears.
Wall Street Doesn't Price Gold Mines. It Prices Labels.
Hang "speculative developer" on a company and the market discounts everything it owns. The gold can be real, the permits done, the shovels moving. The label says risk — so the price says risk.
Swap that label for "federally backed strategic asset" and the discount dies.
Only one thing kills a label: certainty. And certainty has a date.
On May 21, 2026, a federal bank voted unanimously to lend nearly $3 billion to build a gold mine on American soil. Congress got 25 days notice. Nobody objected. Final papers expected later this year.
Same deposit. Same permits. Same gold. But the day that ink dries — funding risk goes to zero, the U.S. government becomes financially fused to the project, and Wall Street re-rates the stock.
One more detail. This company's filings carry a phrase I've never seen on a gold project: substantial support and partnership from the Department of War.
Why? The deposit carries a second metal — one China formally banned from export to the United States. The only domestic reserve of it in the country.
Gold for the dollar war. The banned metal for the shooting war. Both from the same pit.
The company is about one fiftieth the size of Newmont. Still wearing the old label.
CoreWeave Doubled Revenue.
Super Micro Guided to $15 Billion. The AI Infrastructure Debate Is Over.
CoreWeave (CRWV) surged roughly 20% after reporting Q2 revenue of $2.58 billion, up 112% year-over-year. Adjusted operating margin came in at 5%, nearly double the 2.7% estimate. The backlog grew to $104 billion. Shares had been under pressure for weeks on concerns that spending would outpace margin. The margin line settled that.
Super Micro Computer (SMCI) surged roughly 19% after guiding Q1 revenue to $14.5-15.5 billion against a $11.68 billion consensus. That is a 30% beat on the guidance line before the quarter even started. Fourth-quarter earnings also came in well ahead of estimates.
Dell Technologies (DELL) gained 10% and Micron Technology (MU) added nearly 5% on the same read-through. Nebius (NBIS), the European AI cloud specialist, surged 34% after reporting strong EBITDA and revenue. Goldman reiterated buy ratings on Dell, HPE, and NetApp citing agentic AI demand for servers, networking, and storage.
TQ Execution Bias
Two quarters of AI infrastructure earnings anxiety resolved in one session. Backlog growth plus margin expansion is the combination the market needed. Own the physical AI infrastructure supply chain. The debate was about margin. CoreWeave just answered it.
The IEA Said Oil Demand Is Falling Faster Than Expected. WTI Held Anyway.
The International Energy Agency revised its 2026 oil demand forecast downward by 510,000 barrels per day from its July estimate, now projecting a 1.6 million barrel-per-day decline for the full year. High fuel prices are destroying demand faster than the IEA modeled last month.
WTI held near $83 anyway. Attacks on vessels in the Red Sea and Gulf of Oman, including a Houthi attack that killed six people on a cargo ship, kept the supply risk bid intact. The IEA saying demand is falling and oil staying flat in the same session tells you exactly what the market is pricing: not demand, but the physical access story.
The 10-year Treasury auction at 1pm drew solid but not spectacular demand. Yields eased slightly on the CPI in-line result before settling near 4.69%. The bond market got its quiet print and moved on.
TQ Edge Setup
Demand destruction at 1.6 million barrels per day is the fundamental case for $70 WTI. Physical shipping risk is the case for $85. Both are true right now and oil is splitting the difference. Energy names hold until the Strait situation resolves. That resolution is not visible this week.
Buffett, Gates and Bezos Quietly Dumping Stocks—Here's Why
The world's wealthiest individuals are making huge moves with their money.
Warren Buffett just liquidated billions of shares. Bill Gates sold 500,000 shares of Microsoft. Jeff Bezos filed to sell Amazon shares worth $4.8 billion.
What is going on? One multi-millionaire believes they are preparing for a catastrophic event. But not a crash, bank run, or recession. It’s something we haven’t seen in America for more than a century.
Nelson Peltz Is Preparing a Bid to Take Wendy's Private. The Stock Jumped 13%.
Wendy's (WEN) surged almost 15% after reports that Trian Fund Management, along with Flynn Group and BlueFive Capital, is preparing a private equity bid for the burger chain. Trian holds roughly 16% of Wendy's and has been circling the company since 2022.
The timing is notable. Wendy's just cut its dividend, withdrew its 2026 guidance, and reported an 8.2% US same-store sales decline. That is a terrible quarterly report and a rising stock. Private equity is betting the business fixes at a price below its public market value. Peltz ran this playbook at Heinz before Kraft took it private. The pattern is consistent.
TQ Execution Bias
Wendy's at $8.40 prices in part of a deal premium but not a certain one. The FT said a bid may come "in the coming weeks" with no confirmed timeline. Risk-arbitrage pricing is the trade for anyone who wants to hold through the process.
- Cava (CAVA) jumped 13% after reporting Q2 earnings that beat on both revenue and traffic growth. Higher customer traffic drove profit expansion. Mediterranean fast-casual is the consumer discretionary story that is working while premium athletic wear like On Holding falls 20%.
- Blackstone's Link Logistics said 15% of new warehouse leasing this year is tied to the AI data center buildout, suppliers need space to assemble turbines, generators, and switchgear near their labor pools. The AI infrastructure trade now runs through logistics real estate.
- Social Security checks are expected to rise 3.2-3.5% in 2027 based on today's CPI trajectory. Higher inflation lifted the war premium. Now it is lifting retirement checks.
- Trump Media (DJT) was sued over its Truth Social API by The Intercept and Freedom of the Press Foundation, alleging the real-time feed for high-frequency traders violates the First and Fifth Amendments. DJT fell 6%.
Navellier Warns: This Could Leapfrog Elon's SpaceX IPO
Elon Musk could take SpaceX public in 2026, at an estimated $1.75 trillion valuation. The IPO would include Elon's AI model, Grok. But according to Louis Navellier, a radical new AI model will launch this year… over 1,000 times more powerful than Elon's. And the company behind it could outperform SpaceX in the process.

CPI matched forecasts.
September moved to December. CoreWeave proved margin. Super Micro guided 30% above consensus. Wendy's is going private. WTI held near $83 on shipping attacks despite the IEA calling for falling demand.
PPI lands tomorrow. Two clean prints in a row is when the September hike conversation starts to fade entirely.
