TQ Evening Briefing

Anthropic is targeting the largest IPO in history at $2 trillion. PPI came in flat versus a 0.2% estimate. Cisco beat earnings and fell 9% on margin guidance. The Russell 2000 hit a record. September hike odds hit 68%.

The Setup

Two Inflation Prints. Both Soft. The Fed Now Has Cover to Hold Through Year-End.

PPI came in flat for July against a 0.2% estimate. Combined with Wednesday's in-line CPI, the Fed now has two consecutive soft inflation prints heading into September. Hold odds jumped to 68% from 45% a week ago. The 10-year Treasury yield fell to 4.64%, its lowest point in weeks. The 2-year fell sharply too.

The S&P closed near a record. The Nasdaq gained. The Dow barely moved. The Russell 2000 hit an all-time high of 3,067. WTI fell sharply on lower oil demand forecasts before recovering partially to close near $81.

TQ Trade Implication

Two soft prints buys the Fed patience through year-end per most desks. Beth Hammack still wants to hike now. December is still live at 73% odds. The rate debate shifted. It did not close.

The Seven Hottest IPOs On Wall Street’s 2026 Watchlist — FREE

The 2026 pipeline looks very different from years past.

Here’s what’s attached to some of the companies expected to headline the calendar:

• $24 billion in annualized revenue.

• 55% year-over-year revenue growth.

• $1.4+ billion in pre-tax profit.

• 200+ million monthly active users.

• Eight consecutive years of profitability.

Unlike many IPOs, those aren’t projections ten years out - they’re current figures tied to a select set of private companies preparing for public markets.

The Seven Hottest IPOs On Wall Street’s 2026 Watchlist

Theme One

Anthropic Is Targeting a $2 Trillion IPO as Soon as October. That Is the Largest in History.

Anthropic is targeting a public listing as early as October at a $2 trillion valuation, citing half a dozen investors. That would surpass SpaceX (SPCX)'s June IPO, which was the prior record at roughly $1.75 trillion.

The timing matters more than the number. Anthropic would list into two consecutive soft inflation prints, a recovering Nasdaq, AI infrastructure earnings that just validated demand, and a September Fed hold increasingly priced in. The window is as clean as it has been all year.

The $2 trillion figure implies revenues have more than doubled since Anthropic's last private valuation. Every data center deal, every AWS partnership, and every Claude enterprise contract is being reflected in that target. This is not just an AI story. It is the largest capital markets event of the decade arriving at the best possible macro setup.

TQ Execution Bias

An Anthropic IPO at $2 trillion directly lifts Goldman Sachs (GS), Morgan Stanley (MS), and any bank on the deal. It also lifts CoreWeave (CRWV) and AWS (AMZN) as primary infrastructure partners. Watch the prospectus filing for revenue disclosure. That number moves the entire AI sector.

Theme Two

Cisco Beat Earnings and Fell 9%. The Margin Guidance Was the Problem.

Cisco (CSCO) reported a 50% year-over-year jump in profit with the strongest networking equipment demand in decades according to CEO Chuck Robbins. Then the stock fell 9%. Q1 gross margin guidance of 65-66% came in below the 66.4% consensus by about half a point. That was enough.

This is the same pattern that hit Alphabet, Tesla, and now Cisco. Beat on the top line. Get punished on the guide. The market is not buying revenue growth in AI infrastructure. It is demanding margin stability. Cisco's miss was narrow but the stock's reaction shows how little tolerance exists at these valuations.

UBS called the setup an "attractive buying opportunity" and said Cisco is likely being conservative. Goldman said the full-year FY27 guide is strong but flagged the near-term margin concern. Both are probably right. The market decided to price the concern first.

TQ Execution Bias

Cisco at -9% on a 50% profit beat and a half-point margin miss is an overreaction by any fundamental measure. UBS and Goldman both said buy the weakness. The full-year guide is intact. Own it into the next print.

Theme Three

Maersk Raised Guidance and the Russell Hit a Record. The Real Economy Is Running.

Maersk raised its 2026 earnings guidance for the second time this year. The Hormuz closure is not hurting the shipping giant. It is windfall revenue from rerouted ships paying premium rates for longer routes. Shares surged. Maersk is the cleanest barometer of global trade flows and it just said business is better than it modeled.

The Russell 2000 hitting an all-time high tells the same story from a different angle. Small caps are disproportionately domestic businesses. They benefit from lower rates and a resilient consumer. Two inflation beats in two sessions just handed them both. The Russell is up 23% year-to-date and entered a bull market after last month's sell-off.

Bill Ackman's Pershing Square disclosed a new stake in Netflix (NFLX), sending shares up 3%. Ackman last owned Netflix in early 2022 and sold it at a loss. He is back. At current prices that is a different bet than the 2022 trade. Ad-supported revenue now generates real cash.

TQ Execution Bias

Russell at a record while Cisco falls 9% is the rotation in one frame. Real economy small caps with domestic revenue beat AI infrastructure names on margin concerns in the same session. The divergence is the trade heading into the weekend.

Quick Themes
  • Tapestry (TPR) fell 15% despite beating earnings and raising its dividend. Coach sales grew 15% versus a 15.5% estimate. Half a point of miss on the fastest-growing brand in the portfolio was enough to wipe 15% of market cap. Precision execution is now mandatory at luxury price multiples.
  • Iran joined the BRICS New Development Bank as the war approaches six months. Tehran is explicitly building non-dollar financial infrastructure while blockade talks stall. This is a long-term dollar system story wearing a geopolitical headline.
  • Applied Materials (AMAT) reports after the close as the semiconductor equipment cycle's most direct read. ASML raised guidance twice. TSMC raised capex. If AMAT confirms accelerating orders, the semiconductor equipment cycle just printed three clean data points in one week.
  • Birkenstock (BIRK) surged 14% on a revenue and EBITDA beat plus raised guidance. The contrast with Tapestry is the consumer discretionary trade in one day. Birkenstock wins on pricing power and product scarcity. Tapestry wins on brand momentum until that momentum slips half a point.

The Close

PPI flat. CPI in line. September hold at 68%.

Cisco down 9% on a 50% profit beat. Russell at a record. Anthropic targeting a $2 trillion IPO in October. Maersk raising guidance on a closed Strait. The week ends with two inflation prints that gave the Fed its cover.

The Anthropic IPO story is the one that carries into next week. A $2 trillion listing in October would be the largest in history, arriving into the cleanest macro window of the year. Applied Materials reports tonight. Retail sales land tomorrow. The week is not done pricing what two soft prints actually mean for the second half.
